Artist Statement
I create art because it gives purpose and sense to this broken and beautiful world. After laying down ceramics due its excessive carbon footprint, I explored photography because of its mobility on a six-month trip around the world. Upon returning, I particularly enjoyed manipulating the images and using photomontage as a way to express my dreams, visions and spiritual life. One of my sisters inspired my shrine series: she wryly told an Arkansas shrine kit salesman that he should create a shrine to the ideal woman. In the process of exploring the concept of the ideal man and woman, I found my own best self and donated a kidney to a friend. During Covid my work started getting more political. I began making relief sculptures using children’s blocks spelling adult themes, and then transitioned into provocative and political painting directly on flags. My hope for my future art is for it to provoke thought, raise awareness, and allow me to support positive social change
